OUR STORY
After more than a decade working in the London wine trade, Chris Harag moved back to Australia and started Vintrepid in 2023.
We started with a single pallet from Yohan Lardy, a dynamic Beaujolais producer Chris worked with in London and he is still a favourite. Since then the Vintrepid family has grown slowly, but steadily with a focus on Beaujolais, Burgundy and the Loire.
First and foremost, we are an importer and wholesaler. The majority of the wines we bring in our supplied to restaurants - with a smaller allocation made available directly via this website.
HOW WE WORK
Vintrepid is driven by a straightforward approach: find wines we genuinely want to drink and bring them back.
That means reading, researching, speaking directly with producers, and spending time in France tasting in cellars and walking through vineyards. We focus on small, independent growers, wines made with care and sustainably farmed - often in limited quantities and not widely exported.
Every bottle we import is one we've chosen ourselves, and we stand behind. These are not just suppliers, but friends.
WHAT THAT MEANS FOR YOU
Most of the wines we import are never widely available in Australia. They're poured in restaurants or allocated in small quantities.
Vintrepid exists to make some of that access more direct - whether through a subscription, a curated pack, or a one-off purchase.
It also means fair pricing. There is no denying that French wine can often feel unaccessible, with the good stuff commanding pretty sizeable price-tags. By importing direct from the cellars to your doorstep, we can strip out a lot of the costs that normally get passed on.
A NOTE ON SCALE
We keep things deliberately small. We want to connect the growers we love with the people who love discovering and drinking great wine.
The range changes often, volumes are limited and once something is gone, it's usually replaced rather than restocked. The focus is on sourcing well, not expanding quickly.
Our wine club may not be full of fluffy packaging or slick marketing campaigns - but its authentic. Just like the wines we import.
