As someone about to turn 40 myself — married to a wine importer and raising two young boys — you’d probably assume I drink wine all the time.

Truthfully? I can’t handle hangovers anymore.

Which is exactly why I’ve become more focused on drinking better wine, not more wine.

Good wine is different. It’s balanced, thoughtful, and having met all the producers on our last buying trip - I know it is made with care — and for me personally, I genuinely notice the difference the next day.

That’s why I think a wine subscription makes such a great 40th birthday gift.

Not another “thing” that gets forgotten in a cupboard, but something to actually enjoy throughout the year. A reason to slow down, open something special on a Friday night, or share a bottle over dinner with friends.

And the best part? People can club together for it.
Instead of buying one expensive gift, a group can contribute towards a quarterly wine subscription that lasts all year — something the person will genuinely look forward to every few months.

At 40, that feels like a much better kind of luxury.
